Weekly Entertainment Appreciation K-Music – Zico

Look who’s back! 말해 Yes Or No! I mean look who decided to re-make a single with new featurings! At least it has The Quiett in it!

Check down below his new single and some more information!

GUYS ZIACO IS BACK! I still don’t understand what this project is all about but i won’t complain since i’m way too into it! We first listened to this melody when he was a one-episode judge in Unpretty Rapstar and then when he introduced it live at SMTM4 along with Paloalto. You can listen to the full re-make track here.

Now let’s all rewind for a bit and remember where we saw his name! Yeah well, in my Show Me The Money  review post where i mostly talked about the contestants. It’s time to talk about one of the producers then!

Woo Jiho aka Zico is the leader of a korean boy group called BLOCK B. There’s a huge break line between k-idols and k-hip hop artists, that i’m not going to analyse today but let’s say that they are all fighting like cats and dogs, and he is one of the sly-move ones playing around both lines without getting any critisism!

Zico started his rapping career by promoting underground by the name “Nacseo”, meaning ‘doodle’ or ‘scribble’ in Korean being also in a hip-hop crew. He promoted as Nacseo in the Japanese underground hip hop scene. Around 2009 he made a hip hop duo with his friend Park Kyung named “The Harmonics” releasing their single “The Letter” and later on he released his mix tape called “Zico On The Block”.

In 2014 Zico released his official debut single “Tough Cookie” featuring the rapper Don Mills. He was criticized for wearing a jacket emblazoned with an American Confederate flag in the single’s accompanying music video and the use of a homophobic slur in the song’s lyrics. Zico’s label officially addressed the issue saying the homophobic implication of the term had been unintended and that Zico held no prejudice towards sexual minorities, and it’s quite believable because he never show any other issues like this so my brain let it slide casually. The song immediately reached the top of many real-time Korean music charts as a king always do!

In 2015 Zico released “Well Done” his second single, featuring Ja Mezz. The song topped various real-time Korean music charts on the day of its release again! In March, Zico provided the track list for Beyond Closet’s 2015 S/S runway at New York Fashion Week. He also graduated from the Dong-Ah Institute of Media and Arts with a bachelor’s degree!
