Weekly Entertainment Appreciation K-Music – NCT

Even if you are not a fan of the group you have probably heard or watch them through S.M. Entertainment’s SM ROOKIES. Even I did!

In January 2016, Lee Sooman gave a presentation at the SM Coex Artium titled “SMTOWN: New Culture Technology 2016” speaking about S.M. Entertainment’s plans for a new boy group in line with their “culture contents” strategy that would be debuting different teams based in different countries around the world (aka Japan, Korea, China).

The first sub-unit NCT U was introduced with 6 members and the pretty addicted M/V for “일곱 번째 감각 (The 7th Sense)”. The company released a statement saying that this kind of music represents all units of NCT. If this isn’t exciting enough then I don’t know what else to say.

The second release was “Without U” showing off another side of the sub-unit. To be honest I was so obsessed with “The 7th Sense” that I didn’t give this song much loving until a couple of weeks ago. Not bad!

On July 1, S.M. Entertainment announced NCT’s second sub-unit, NCT 127. The number 127 representing the longitude coordinates of Seoul which is pretty sick if you think about it. This unit now has seven members and the music style is totally different!

“Their title track “소방차 (Fire Truck)” is a beat-heavy track fusing hip hop and trap with lyrics about their hopes to free people from stress with music.”

That’s what they said. Although after the release many people came out to drag them down accusing them of pedophilia or something.. People are crazy these days. I didn’t even get a single bad vibe!

Anyways, the song is awesome and stuck in my head already! It’s so good to see a company so stereotypical with songs and artists to release something so unique! Way to go S.M. and let’s hope you won’t fuck them up too.
